Kouzuru has continued to be used since long ago as a sake offered to the gods at Okunitama Shrine - one of the five shrines in Tokyo famous for the Kurayami Festival.

Noguchi brewery has been in the business of brewing sake offered to the gods on the order of the shrine since 1860 at the end of the Edo period (1603 to 1868). Its old-fashioned rich and strong taste is now widely loved by the people of this area in addition to serving as a sake offered to the gods.
