It was Kodaira city where blueberries were first cultivated as agricultural product in Japan.
The late Professor Hayao Iwagaki of the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology - also known as the "Father of Blueberries" in Japan - was the first to import blueberries suitable for the Japanese climate from the United States. He then worked to create an environment in which the cultivation of blueberries could become a livelihood. His passion has been passed down to the present day to his students.
Kodaira Blueberry Ale, which has this story in its background, is a local beer made from blueberries 100% produced in the city.
It is made with a unique method of natural fermentation and in-bottle aging. Its additive-free, raw and yeast-containing refreshing taste is popular.
