Review from a wheelchair user who stayed at the hotel
To get to AKABANEHOLIC HOTEL, take the east exit outside the south ticket gate of JR Akabane Station, where there is access to an elevator. There are no steps on the sidewalk to the hotel. The hotel is located in a downtown area with many dinner options. There was a small step in front of the entrance that created a barrier. However, the left edge was wheelchair-accessible. The staff approached me as soon as I entered the hotel. They led me to a small desk in front of the check-in counter to check in. This was a thoughtful gesture, as the check-in counter is too high for wheelchair users to use to fill out the guest card. Their explanation of the hotel was detailed and polite. The Universal Twin room was conveniently located near the elevator.
The Universal Twin room was 25.2㎡ and stylishly decorated. The simple design made it feel larger than expected for its size. The height of the bed was also ideal for transfers from a wheelchair. There is one room of this type on the fourth floor and another on the fifth floor, which makes it convenient for wheelchair users to stay together at the hotel. The bath and toilet were located in the same room. The bathroom was compact, yet felt spacious. The location of equipment such as the sink and grab bars made it easy to use. A spacious public bath is located on the basement floor. There are no steps all the way to the entrance of the public bath. I was able to get to the changing room in a wheelchair without any problems. There was also a shower chair in the public bath.
The restaurant and bar “Minori de bar” next to the front desk serves as a lounge at night. It has an incredibly relaxed and stylish atmosphere, and wheelchair users can use the space without feeling rushed. In the morning, it transforms into a buffet-style breakfast room. The staff helped me to enjoy breakfast in comfort.
